About The Course

Painting: Beyond the Brush

Take your painting skills far beyond traditional brushwork and step into the extraordinary worlds of iconic artists like Van Gogh and Chagall! Inspired by timeless masterpieces, young artists will experiment with unexpected tools using cotton buds, balloons, squeegees, soap, masking tape, and iridescent film alongside fundamental brush techniques. From mastering tape-resist geometry to pulling vibrant squeegee prints and adding interactive 3D elements, children will discover how to bring their imaginative creations off the canvas and into life.

Children will learn how to:

• Master Unconventional Tools: Move beyond the brush using squeegees, balloons, and cotton buds to produce bold, expressive textures and patterns.

• Explore Resist & Precision: Apply masking tape techniques to create sharp geometric lines, contrast, and hidden-layer reveals.

• Layer Texture & Light: Blend impasto-style paint layering with soap texturing and iridescent film for dynamic, light-capturing surfaces.

• Integrate 3D & Interactive Elements: Combine traditional canvas painting with tactile 3D materials to create interactive, multi-dimensional artwork.

This course is ideal for any young creator who loves to experiment with colour, motion, and grand artistic ideas. It’s a hands-on experience that blends fine art history with innovative toolwork and experimental design!

All abilities welcome, just bring your imagination and a love of making!
