About The Course
Mixed Media: The Material Journey
Take your artistic skills on a global expedition of texture and light! This exciting new course challenges children to explore the "Material Journey"—transforming everyday items like coffee, rice, cellophane, and transparent film into sophisticated works of art. From engineering openable architectural houses and mapping underground ant colonies to constructing stained-glass windows and engineering magic torchlight illusions, children will discover that every material tells a story.
Children will learn how to:
Engineer functional structures by mastering paper-folding and structural design to create 3D houses and kinetic skydiving scenes.
Master tactile and organic textures by manipulating unexpected media like coffee granules, rice grains, and scrunched paper to create rich, sensory landscapes.
Explore light and translucency through cellophane layering and transparent film to construct glowing stained-glass windows and interactive torchlight effects.
Apply complex composition techniques including bird's-eye perspective, optical layering, and precision detailing to bring miniature worlds to life.
This course is ideal for any young inventor who loves to experiment, build, and solve creative puzzles. It’s a hands-on experience that blends fine art with structural design and optical science!
All abilities welcome—just bring your imagination and a love of making!
